The 2026 Xiaomi SU7 arrives with a restructured lineup, a purpose-built suspension platform branded "Dragon Chassis," and enough orders in its first half hour to suggest the Chinese tech giant's automotive division has found serious traction.

Three Variants, Three Price Points

Xiaomi splits the updated SU7 into Standard, Pro, and Max trims, each targeting a distinct buyer profile.

The Standard model opens at 219,900 yuan (roughly $31,870), powered by a single 235 kW motor fed by a 73 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. Xiaomi claims 720 km of range on the CLTC cycle. Moving to the Pro at 249,900 yuan swaps in a larger 96.3 kWh LFP pack, stretching range to 902 km while retaining the same motor output.

The Max variant jumps to 303,900 yuan and a fundamentally different powertrain: dual motors producing a combined 508 kW (680 horsepower), paired with a 101.7 kWh ternary (nickel-based) battery rated at 835 km. The shift from LFP to ternary chemistry on the top trim reflects a deliberate trade between the Standard and Pro models' cost efficiency and the Max's outright energy density.

Dragon Chassis: More Than a Name

The suspension architecture uses double-wishbone geometry at the front and a five-link setup at the rear. Higher trims add air suspension, allowing ride height adjustment for different driving conditions. The body structure incorporates 2200 MPa ultra-high-strength steel, a grade typically reserved for motorsport-adjacent applications or crash structures in premium European sedans.

Xiaomi has built the platform around an 800V-class electrical architecture, with actual operating voltages ranging from 752V to 897V depending on the variant. That voltage ceiling enables faster DC charging speeds and reduces current-related heat losses in the drive motors and wiring harness.

At 4,997 mm long with a 3,000 mm wheelbase, the SU7 sits squarely in the space occupied by the Tesla Model S and BMW i5. Nine airbags come standard across all trims.

Autonomy Hardware Across the Range

Every 2026 SU7 variant ships with LiDAR and an Nvidia Thor-U processor rated at 700 TOPS of compute power. That is a significant decision: rather than reserving advanced driver-assistance hardware for the top trim, Xiaomi has made it standard equipment from the base model upward.

The Thor-U chip consolidates functions that previously required multiple processors, handling both infotainment and autonomous driving tasks on a single piece of silicon. At 700 TOPS, it outperforms the compute available in most current-generation competitors, though raw processing power alone does not determine real-world autonomous capability.

Market Reception

The 15,000 orders placed within 34 minutes of the configurator going live indicate strong demand, though Chinese pre-order numbers require careful interpretation. Deposits in this market are often fully refundable, and conversion rates to delivered vehicles can vary significantly.

Still, the velocity of those initial orders reflects genuine consumer interest. The original SU7 launched in 2024 and exceeded Xiaomi's production capacity within months, forcing the company to accelerate factory expansion plans. Whether manufacturing can keep pace with demand for the 2026 model will determine if those early orders translate into timely deliveries.

The 2200 MPa steel used in the SU7's body structure matches the tensile strength grade found in the Volvo EX90 and latest-generation Porsche Taycan, placing it among the strongest production automotive steels currently in volume manufacturing.
