VinFast has unveiled two ultra-luxury flagships: the Lac Hong 800S SUV and 900S sedan. Both produce 617 hp (460 kW) from an electric tri-motor all-wheel-drive system. The targets are the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. Whether VinFast can credibly compete at that level is another question entirely.
The 800S SUV mirrors the upright proportions of the Cullinan, with straight character lines, silver accents, multi-spoke wheels, and a thick D-pillar. The 900S sedan rides on a massive wheelbase with a sloping roofline flowing into a fastback rear with T-shaped LED taillights. Both feature a large grille with vertical slats inspired by Vietnamese bamboo, split LED headlights, and a gold Lac bird ornament on the hood, D-pillars, and rear emblem. The tailgate lettering is genuine gold-plated alloy.
Interior
Wood veneers combine with Nappa leather and gold-plated inserts throughout. A single display handles both the instrument cluster and infotainment. A cylindrical knob references BMW's iDrive controller. Dual wireless charging pads and gold-plated speaker grilles are standard.
The 900S prioritizes the rear cabin with zero-gravity executive seating, automatic power-assisted doors, an optional partition with a projection entertainment system, a foldable executive workstation, a starry night headliner, and warm ambient lighting. The ambition is unmistakable. The execution will determine everything.
What's Missing
VinFast hasn't disclosed battery capacity, range estimates, or pricing. For a vehicle targeting Rolls-Royce buyers, the absence of range figures is a notable gap. An active suspension system is promised for ride comfort and dynamic stability.
The competitive landscape is crowded. Huawei-backed Maextro offers similar presence and technology at considerably lower prices. Traditional luxury players have decades of brand equity that VinFast's US market struggles (limited sales, limited service network) haven't yet matched.
Both models are expected to launch in 2027 with pricing that will significantly exceed VinFast's mainstream EV lineup.
