Toyota has opened pre-sales for the bZ7 electric sedan in China at 179,800 yuan ($26,000). A Tesla Model S starts at 842,900 yuan ($122,000) in the same market. The bZ7 is 4.6 times cheaper at base level, and it's roughly the same size.

The bZ7 measures 5.1 meters long on a 3,020 mm wheelbase, putting it in the same dimensional class as the Model S, BYD Han L, and BMW i5. Width is 1,965 mm, height 1,506 mm. A single Huawei DriveONE motor produces 207 kW (277 hp) driving the rear wheels through a lithium iron phosphate battery pack.

Range spans from 600 km (373 miles) on the base 600 Pro trim to 710 km (441 miles) on the top 710 Ultra LiDAR variant, both under CLTC standards. The top trim reaches 239,800 yuan ($34,800).

Huawei and Xiaomi Inside

The bZ7 runs Huawei HarmonyOS Cockpit 5.0 on a 15.6-inch central display with a compact driver screen and head-up display. The Momenta R6 ADAS system includes roof-mounted LiDAR, navigation-assisted driving, and automated parking. There's also Xiaomi smart home ecosystem compatibility, which is Toyota adapting to a Chinese market where your car and your living room are expected to talk to each other.

Zero-gravity seats, massage and ventilation, a premium audio system, rear seat trays, and a built-in refrigerator fill out the comfort specification.

Toyota's China Pivot

Legacy automakers have struggled with Chinese-centric ecosystems. Toyota's decision to integrate HarmonyOS rather than fight it with a proprietary solution represents a concession that could pay off in volume. The bZ7 doesn't compete on raw power (277 hp against the Model S's 670 hp), but it competes aggressively on value, range, and software integration.

Pre-sales are open now. Delivery timing for the Chinese market hasn't been confirmed.
