Smart #6 EHD: 320 kW PHEV Sedan with 2,000W Sennheiser Audio Heads to Beijing

Smart's largest model yet - a 4,906 mm PHEV sedan with 285 km electric range, 429 hp combined, and a 20-speaker Sennheiser system - debuting at Auto China 2026.

Smart #6 EHD: 320 kW PHEV Sedan with 2,000W Sennheiser Audio Heads to Beijing

Smart is no longer a city car brand. The #6 EHD, a plug-in hybrid sedan that will launch at the Beijing Auto Show, is 4,906 mm long, seats five, packs a 2,000-watt Sennheiser audio system, and produces 320 kW combined. It is the most ambitious vehicle the Mercedes-Benz and Geely joint venture has built — and in a segment overrun with options, it's trying to win on the interior.

Inside a 2,000-Watt Cabin

The #6 EHD's cabin is the story. Smart has partnered with Sennheiser on a 20-speaker audio system in a 7.1.4 layout that peaks above 2,000 watts, with a floating lift speaker built into the cabin architecture. Aircraft turbine-inspired air vents with 3D structure, nearly 800 ambient lighting points across 26 zones, and 256-color customization options set the scene. Seats use HDD quilting and Nappa leather. Three colorways — Grid Yellow, Shadow Black, Wild Brown — define the interior character options.

A dual-screen layout covers the driver cluster and central display, with the front passenger getting a dedicated entertainment screen. This is the kind of interior spec that would look at home in vehicles costing twice as much.

Dimensions and Powertrain

The #6 EHD is the largest Smart model produced to date. At 4,906 mm long, 1,922 mm wide, 1,508 mm tall, with a 2,926 mm wheelbase, it's a genuine mid-size sedan rather than a compact — a significant departure from where this brand started.

The plug-in hybrid system pairs a 1.5T turbocharged engine (120 kW / 161 hp) with electric motors through a 3-speed DHT transmission, delivering 320 kW (429 hp) combined. Two battery sizes are available: 20 kWh and 41.46 kWh. The larger option provides 285 km of pure electric range and a total CLTC range of 1,810 km with the combustion system contributing.

FSD variable damping suspension, ZF steering, Continental EC7S tires, and available 19 or 20-inch wheels handle the dynamic side. LiDAR handles the intelligent driving stack.

Smart's Repositioning

The #6 EHD sits at the logical conclusion of what Smart has been trying to do since its relaunch under Geely's management. The original Fortwo gave the brand its identity — quirky, minimal, urban. The new Smart argues that identity is a liability in a market that rewards scale, technology, and premium feel.

The #1 and #3 crossovers established that buyers were willing to follow the brand upmarket. The #6 EHD takes that further: a full sedan with a Sennheiser collaboration, 285 km electric range, and positioning against much more expensive German competitors.

The exterior matches the ambition. A bionic shark nose design, electrically adjustable rear spoiler, and the wider stance of a proper mid-size sedan replace the cute-car language of Smart's past. The Beijing Auto Show debut will show whether buyers see a brand that has successfully grown up — or a nameplate stretched past its roots.

Official launch is planned for mid-2026 following the Beijing unveiling.
