SAIC Z7 Priced From $32,200 as China's Taycan Alternative Debuts at Beijing

The Z7 Ultra matches the Taycan GTS from zero to 100 km/h. It costs about a fifth as much.

SAIC Z7 Priced From $32,200 as China's Taycan Alternative Debuts at Beijing

SAIC has confirmed pricing for its Z7 electric sedan, opening at 219,800 yuan ($32,200) in China. The model makes its public debut this week at the Beijing Auto Show, where SAIC is also revealing the Z7T, a shooting brake variant that mirrors the Taycan Cross Turismo in format, if not in ambition.

The company made the comparison explicit in its marketing, and the numbers warrant the attention. The entry Z7 Max uses a rear-mounted single motor producing 359 hp with an 81 kWh battery, claiming 732 km (455 miles) of CLTC range. The Z7 Ultra, the dual-motor top trim at 590 hp, covers 0-100 km/h in 3.44 seconds and asks 299,800 yuan ($43,900). A Taycan GTS takes the same sprint in 3.3 seconds and starts at 1,298,000 yuan ($190,000). The tenth of a second difference costs roughly $146,000.

That is not a comparison. That is a structural problem for European manufacturers selling in China.

The Z7 Max+ fills the middle at 249,800 yuan ($36,600) with a 100 kWh pack and 905 km (562 miles) of claimed range. The Z7T wagon runs the same three-trim logic: from 229,800 yuan ($33,700) for the base Max to 309,800 yuan ($45,400) for the Ultra. All variants sit on SAIC's Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance platform, developed in partnership with Huawei, with standard LiDAR and the brand's latest intelligent driving system.

The Z7 was unveiled earlier in 2026 as a direct rival to the Xiaomi SU7, the benchmark for premium EVs at non-premium prices in China. At Beijing, SAIC is adding the Z7T to the lineup and opening order books. China starting price: 219,800 yuan ($32,200).
