Hongqi P567: 620 kW EREV Off-Roader with 1,350 km Range Debuts in Beijing

The Hongqi P567 brings four electric motors, 831 hp, differential locks, and a boxy body to Beijing's Auto Show - Hongqi's bet on China's booming off-road EREV market.

Hongqi P567: 620 kW EREV Off-Roader with 1,350 km Range Debuts in Beijing

China's appetite for boxy, high-power off-road SUVs shows no sign of slowing down — and Hongqi wants a seat at the table. The P567, an extended-range electric off-roader that will debut at the Beijing Auto Show on April 24, is the state-owned brand's direct response to BYD's Tank-rivaling lineup and the growing wave of plug-in hybrid hard-core SUVs from Chery, Geely, and GAC.

🔧 Four Motors, 620 kW, Differential Locks

The P567's powertrain leaves nothing ambiguous. A 2.0-liter turbocharged generator powers four electric motors producing a combined 620 kW (831 hp) and 1,320 Nm of torque. That's enough to push the 5,135 mm body to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds — a number that makes more sense when you realize this is a vehicle weighing well over two tons and designed to wade through terrain most road-going SUVs would refuse.

The range-extender architecture means the combustion engine doesn't drive the wheels directly. It generates electricity on the move, eliminating the torque interruptions of traditional four-wheel-drive systems. Front and rear differential locks handle the difficult terrain. Pure electric range is rated at 280 km under CLTC conditions; combined range with the fuel tank reaches 1,350 km.

The Shape of Ambition

Hongqi didn't try to soften the P567's proportions. At 5,135 mm long, 2,050 mm wide, and 1,950 mm tall with a 2,900 mm wheelbase, it's a genuinely large vehicle — large plastic wheel arches, blocky headlights, flat roofline, swing-out rear door with spare wheel. The DNA reads like a Land Cruiser 70 Series crossed with Hongqi's own ceremonial vehicle heritage.

Inside, a large central touchscreen, three-spoke steering wheel with shifter behind it, dual wireless chargers and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor bring the cabin into the present. The LiDAR suggests intelligent driving assist will be part of the package, though full specs haven't been published yet.

Market Pressure and Hongqi's Decline

The timing of the P567 launch matters. Hongqi delivered 75,235 vehicles domestically in Q1 2026 — a 25.3% year-over-year drop. That decline puts the brand in an uncomfortable position: well-known, government-adjacent, but losing ground in a market that increasingly rewards technology leadership.

The hard-core EREV off-road segment is one of the fastest-growing pockets in Chinese automotive right now. BYD's Tank brand, Chery's Jaecoo and Jetour lines, Geely's Radar trucks, and GAC's upcoming off-road platform are all competing for a buyer who wants serious terrain capability and four-digit km range without making trade-offs. Hongqi is entering that fight with 831 hp and the P567's blunt aesthetic — a combination that at least guarantees attention on the show floor.

Pricing and full specifications will be announced when the vehicle enters the market later in 2026, following its April 24 debut.
