Before becoming a symbol of automotive luxury and innovation, Buick’s roots were in plumbing. Born in Arbroath, Scotland, David Dunbar Buick reinvented himself in his mid-thirties when he became fascinated by gasoline engines. By the early 1900s, he had already built numerous engines for farming and boating. His growing passion for mechanics led to the founding of his first company, Auto-Vim and Power Co.
