The chip tiers work like this: the base Max version includes one Turing AI chip as standard. Pay 12,000 yuan more for the Ultra SE with two chips. Pay 20,000 yuan for the Ultra with three chips. Each tier unlocks progressively more autonomous driving capability. It's a monetization model that mirrors Tesla's Full Self-Driving subscription, except XPeng charges for hardware rather than software.
The Sales Problem
The P7 peaked at 8,110 deliveries in September 2025 and collapsed to 681 units in February 2026. Company-wide February deliveries hit 15,256 vehicles, down 49.90% year-over-year. For context, XPeng delivered 429,400 vehicles in 2025 and targets 550,000-600,000 for 2026 (28-40% growth).
The price cut and tiered chip approach are attempts to broaden the P7's appeal without undermining the flagship positioning. A lower entry point captures price-sensitive buyers who don't need three AI chips. The top trim retains its technology advantage for buyers who want the full autonomous stack.
VLA 2.0 Timing
The P7 price reset coincides with VLA 2.0 test drives launching across 732 XPeng stores. Financial results were scheduled for March 20, 2026. The entire March communications strategy, price adjustment, VLA demos, and earnings, is designed to reframe the P7's narrative heading into Q2.
