BYD plans to install its first batch of 1,500 kW flash chargers outside China in the coming weeks. The target: European markets, starting before the end of 2026.

These are the same stations that enable BYD's headline-grabbing charging claims: 10-70% in 5 minutes, 10-97% in 9 minutes. The second-generation Blade Battery on the 1000V architecture makes the vehicle side possible. The 1,500 kW station makes the infrastructure side work.

The European Play

The Denza Z9GT is scheduled for its European debut on April 8, 2026 in Paris. It carries the second-generation Blade Battery (LFP) with up to 1,036 km of range. The Yangwang U7 follows with a 150 kWh pack and 1,006 km of range. Ten models across BYD's brands will support flash-charging from the first wave.

In China, BYD targets 20,000 flash-charging stations by the end of 2026. The overseas expansion brings the same infrastructure advantage that has fueled domestic growth: when you control both the vehicle and the charger, you control the charging experience.

Why It Matters for Europe

Europe's public charging network is fragmented and often slower than advertised. BYD installing proprietary 1,500 kW stations changes the competitive equation. Tesla built Superchargers to sell cars. BYD is building flash-charging stations for the same reason, just at higher power levels. Whether BYD opens these stations to third-party vehicles (as Tesla eventually did) remains an open question.
