The RS5 replaces the RS4 with a twin-turbo 2.9L V6 PHEV. Both sedan and Avant confirmed, competing with BMW M3 and AMG C63 S.

Audi RS5 Leaks as Plug-In Hybrid V6 in Sedan and Avant Body Styles

Audi's next RS model leaked before its official reveal, and it confirms what the rumors suggested: the RS5 is a plug-in hybrid. A twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 pairs with electric motors on the PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) architecture, arriving in both sedan and Avant body styles. Combined output hasn't been confirmed, but Audi says it surpasses the mild-hybrid S5's 362 hp "comfortably." Expect something north of 500 hp.

The RS5 replaces the RS4 nameplate as part of Audi's model number consolidation. It also replaces the previous car's single powertrain option with a PHEV system that adds electric-only driving capability. This is Audi's first plug-in hybrid RS model, a category that Mercedes-AMG pioneered with the C63 S E Performance and its divisive four-cylinder turbo-hybrid.

The Avant Survives

Both sedan and Avant (wagon) body styles are confirmed. The Avant's survival matters because Audi has been progressively culling wagon variants from markets where sales don't justify the tooling cost. Keeping the RS5 Avant signals that Audi believes the performance wagon buyer is loyal enough to sustain the body style.

On a 2,900 mm wheelbase (retained from the standard A5), the RS5 is longer, wider, and lower than its non-RS sibling. Interior spec includes an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, 14.5-inch infotainment display, and 10.9-inch passenger screen. Alcantara trim with red steering wheel buttons and RS-specific graphics distinguish the cabin.

The Competition Has Changed

The RS5 enters a transformed competitive landscape. The BMW M3 remains naturally aspirated (inline-six, no electrification). The Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance went four-cylinder turbo-hybrid and alienated half its customer base. The RS5's twin-turbo V6 PHEV splits the difference: more cylinders and displacement than Mercedes, electrification that BMW doesn't offer.

Sharper suspension tuning and larger brakes are confirmed. Specific performance figures (0-62, top speed, electric range) haven't been disclosed. Pricing is also undisclosed. The leaked images show the full design ahead of the official unveiling, which Audi has scheduled but not dated beyond "soon." Expect a formal reveal and full spec sheet within weeks of the February 2026 leak.
