Leapmotor A10: Compact Electric SUV With 500 km Range and Optional LiDAR

Leapmotor files its first A-series model: a 90 kW compact SUV at ~$10,000 with LFP battery, 500 km range, and optional roof-mounted LiDAR.

Leapmotor A10: Compact Electric SUV With 500 km Range and Optional LiDAR

Leapmotor filed regulatory paperwork in China for the A10, a compact electric SUV that opens the company's new A-series lineup. At 4,270 mm long, 1,810 mm wide, and 1,635 mm tall on a 2,605 mm wheelbase, it slots directly against the Geely Xingyuan and BYD Seagull in the segment where China's EV price war is fiercest.

The single motor produces 90 kW (121 hp), fed by an LFP battery with 500 km of range. Fast charging covers 30% to 80% in 16 minutes. Curb weight is 1,460 kg. The oil-cooled electric drive system and LFP chemistry suggest Leapmotor is prioritizing cost and durability over energy density.

🔧 LiDAR on a $10,000 Car

The MIIT filing shows optional roof-mounted LiDAR sensors for autonomous driving capability. If the A10 ships LiDAR at its estimated starting price of around $10,000, it would be among the cheapest vehicles in the world to offer the sensor. Optional rearview camera mirrors add to the tech story. The filing doesn't specify the chip platform, but Leapmotor has used Qualcomm 8295 and 8650 processors in higher-end models.

Design follows Leapmotor's "Technology Natural Aesthetics 2.0" language: closed front grille, LED headlights, semi-hidden door handles, and concealed B, C, and D pillars that give the greenhouse a floating-roof effect. Wheel spec is 215/50 R18.

The A-Series Strategy

The A10 is Leapmotor's first A-series model, positioned below the existing B and C series (which include the B10 crossover and C10/C16 SUVs). Blind pre-orders have opened, with mass deliveries expected in the first half of 2026.

Leapmotor's partnership with Stellantis gives the A10 potential access to European dealer networks, though the company hasn't confirmed international availability for this model. At $10,000-$14,000, the A10 is priced for China's domestic volume segment. Whether it reaches global markets depends on tariff economics and Stellantis's willingness to sell a car that undercuts everything in its own portfolio.
